I remember when I started my game development journey in February 2020. My dad bought me a brand-new gaming laptop because my old one isn’t able to run high-quality graphics for my needs. For about a year, I was spending about 2~5 hours a day, including weekends, learning every useful learning material I find on the internet. Luckily, YouTube is full of excellent free tutorials as well as the engine, Unity, that I am using to create my 2D games. It’s all free!

Is it that simple? No. Game development is one of the hardest fields in technology. Its industry is very competitive, making games requires a lot of time and effort, not to mention the finance part of it.

I remember when I faced a technical problem while making a simple board game during my first year of learning. I spent a whole week figuring out what was that problem. You can imagine the frustration I experienced at the time, I even thought to quit. Eventually, it turned out that the bug was so simple; a value should be 2, not 3. Many lessons I learned from all the struggles I faced.

Currently, I’m participating in Game Jams (tournaments) to meet and work with other passionate Devs. I am also trying to finish my dream game after four failures in two years. My guts tell me that this time is going to be finally a successful attempt. I’m very grateful that I’ve chosen this field although it’s so challenging because not only getting into game development is rewarding but also held so much fun on the trip. I have some snaps to share of my glorious moments right after solving exhausting problems.

GameDev has to be one of the best decisions that I made with my heart. It used to be a hobby back then but now it’s my career and lifestyle.
